Course Details
- An interactive 5 day course which includes the opportunity of placing an implant into a patient under suprevision from the course educators
- Designed to give participants the experience, basic skills and knowledge required to be used as a foundation for further education such as the diplomas or MSc
- Gives an understanding of how to provide implants as a new treatment option within your practice
- Interactive, group lead discussion incorporating hands-on exercises both on models and in sterile surgical conditions
Ideal For
- Clinicians who have little or no experience of dental implants and wish to expand their knowledge and skills, and gain hands-on experience within a teaching/supervised environment
What will I learn, objective
- To build on the participants’ theoretical knowledge and allow them to place their first implant in an environment where there is expert one-to-one advice during the whole procedure
- To allow participants to carefully select cases that are within their skill level
- An emphasis on planning and how this facilitates the surgical procedure
- Participants will have seen at least twelve separate implant placements
- Have placed at least one implant, assisted in one other placement and had interactive live video viewing of ten other implants
- Have theoretical and practical experience of guided bone regeneration
- Have full week long access to an operating techniques‘ room where they can practice implant placements in realistic model jaws
- Modern suturing techniques using a variety of suture materials and how to use micro surgical techniques

Day 2
- Aseptic technique for surgery preparation
- Radiographic assessment
- Radigraphic callibration using callibrated software
- The Straumann Bone Level implant
- Consent
- Flap design and basic surgical skills
- Guided bone regeneration and practical - models
- Basic aesthetic principles
Day 3
- Live skills implant placement demonstration
- Post operative complications
- Healing phase
- Soft tissue management
- Review of implants to be placed by participants
Day 4 & 5
- Surgical placement carried out under supervision within a sterile surgical environment
