Course Outline

  • Implants and their restorations need ongoing monitoring and care. Whilst exempt from dental decay they are still at risk from peri-implant inflammation leading to bone loss and damage from occlusal forces. The successful implant with sound peri-implant mucosa, stable marginal bone and a sound restoration may go on indefinitely. On the other hand, an implant affected by peri-implant inflammation and advancing bone loss or a chipped, loosened restoration are at best surviving and at worst destined for failure.Introduction to implants and design features
